🥇 Why This Tour Is Special
This 9-day Yucatán and Campeche tour has been designed for travelers who want to understand the region in a deeper and more meaningful way.
Yucatán and Campeche are two of the most culturally rich states in Mexico. Together, they offer a powerful combination of ancient Maya cities, colonial architecture, fortified ports, local gastronomy, cenotes, traditional towns, haciendas, tropical forests and living communities.
Unlike standard tours that focus only on Chichén Itzá and Mérida, this itinerary opens the door to a broader vision of the Maya world. It includes world-famous sites such as Uxmal and Chichén Itzá, but also less crowded and highly valuable destinations such as Edzná, Calakmul, Kabah, Becal, Izamal, Ek Balam and traditional Yucatecan towns.
This tour is flexible enough for a private family or friends group, structured enough for an international tour operator, and meaningful enough for associations, incentive groups and cultural organizations looking for an authentic Yucatán and Campeche experience.

Day 2 – Mérida Cultural Experience: Historic Center, Paseo de Montejo & Local Life
- After breakfast, enjoy a guided cultural tour of Mérida, one of the most elegant and historically rich cities in southeastern Mexico.
- The visit may include Plaza Grande, the Cathedral, Casa de Montejo, the Government Palace, traditional neighborhoods, local markets and Paseo de Montejo, where beautiful mansions reflect the prosperity of the henequen era.
- This day offers an excellent introduction to Yucatán’s identity: Spanish colonial heritage, Maya roots, regional cuisine, music, architecture and the daily life of a city that remains one of Mexico’s most attractive cultural capitals.
- A traditional Yucatecan lunch can be included at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, free time may be offered for museums, shopping, cafés, galleries or additional cultural visits.
Overnight: Mérida.
Day 3 – Haciendas, Uxmal, Kabah & Becal – Journey to Campeche
- Today the group travels into the Puuc region, one of the most important cultural landscapes in Yucatán.
- The day may begin with a visit to a former henequen hacienda, where travelers learn about the “green gold” period that shaped the economy, architecture and social history of Yucatán.
- Continue to Uxmal, one of the finest archaeological sites in Mexico and a masterpiece of Maya architecture. After Uxmal, continue to Kabah, another important Puuc archaeological site closely connected to Uxmal.
- On the way to Campeche, a stop in Becal can be included. This town is famous for its traditional jipi japa hats, handmade by local artisans.
- Arrival in Campeche and check-in at the hotel.
Overnight: Campeche.
Day 4 – Campeche Walled City & Edzná Archaeological Site
- After breakfast, enjoy a guided visit of Campeche, one of the most beautiful colonial cities on the Gulf of Mexico.
- Discover the history of this ancient Maya settlement and admire its privileged position overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Your guide will explain the importance of the site, its principal structures and its role within the coastal trade networks of the Maya world.
- The historic center of Campeche is known for its colorful facades, quiet streets, defensive walls, bastions, churches, plazas and maritime atmosphere. The city’s fortified character reflects its importance as a colonial port and its need for protection against attacks from the sea.
- In the afternoon, visit Edzná, one of the most important archaeological sites in Campeche. Although less known than Chichén Itzá or Uxmal, Edzná offers a fascinating view of Maya urban planning, architecture and regional power.
- Return to Campeche in the afternoon.
Overnight: Campeche.
Day 5 – Calakmul: Deep Maya World in the Tropical Forest
- This is one of the most extraordinary days of the tour. Early departure toward Calakmul, one of the great ancient cities of the Maya world. Located deep in the tropical forest of southern Campeche, Calakmul offers a very different experience from the more visited archaeological sites of northern Yucatán.
- Here, travelers feel the scale and mystery of an ancient Maya capital surrounded by jungle. The visit combines archaeology, nature, silence, biodiversity and a sense of exploration. Calakmul is ideal for travelers who want to understand the Maya civilization not only through monuments, but also through landscape, environment and historical depth.
- Depending on the final logistics, the group may return to Campeche or overnight closer to the Calakmul area to reduce travel time and improve comfort.
Overnight: Campeche or Calakmul area, according to final program design.
Day 6 – Return to Yucatán: Izamal & Valladolid
- After breakfast, begin the journey back toward Yucatán.
- Visit Izamal, known as the Yellow City, one of the most photogenic and meaningful towns in the region. Its yellow colonial buildings, cobblestone streets, Maya remains and the Convent of San Antonio de Padua create a unique atmosphere where Maya and Spanish heritage coexist.
- Continue to Valladolid, one of Yucatán’s most charming colonial cities. Its colorful streets, historic churches, local shops and relaxed atmosphere make it an excellent base for visiting Chichén Itzá, Ek Balam and nearby cenotes.
Overnight: Valladolid.
Day 7 – Chichén Itzá, Cenote Experience & Valladolid
- After breakfast, visit Chichén Itzá, the most famous archaeological site in Yucatán and one of the most iconic places in Mexico.
- The guided visit may include the Temple of Kukulkán, the Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors, the Observatory and other ceremonial structures that reveal the complexity of Maya knowledge, astronomy, architecture and political life.
- After the archaeological visit, enjoy lunch and time at a nearby cenote. Cenotes are not only beautiful natural swimming places; they are also essential to the geography, history and spirituality of the Yucatán Peninsula.
- In the afternoon, return to Valladolid for a relaxed walk through the historic center or free time to enjoy the town.
Overnight: Valladolid.
Day 8 – Ek Balam, Local Community Experience & Return to Mérida
- Today, visit Ek Balam, a beautiful Maya archaeological site near Valladolid. Ek Balam offers a more intimate atmosphere than some of the larger sites and allows travelers to appreciate the diversity of Maya cities across the peninsula.
- Depending on the group’s interests, the visit can be complemented with a cenote experience, a traditional lunch, a local workshop, a community visit or an introduction to regional crafts and food traditions.
- This day reinforces one of the central ideas of the tour: the Maya world is not only ancient. It is also alive in local communities, cuisine, language, crafts, religious expressions and daily life.
- In the afternoon, return to Mérida. Farewell dinner can be arranged at a traditional restaurant or special venue.
Overnight: Mérida.
Day 9 – Celestún, Mérida Departure or Extension to Cancun / Riviera Maya
- Depending on flight schedules and group interests, the final day can be organized in different ways.
- One option is to visit Celestún, a beautiful coastal area west of Mérida known for mangroves, boat rides, birdlife, flamingo areas and Gulf Coast landscapes. This option adds a natural and relaxed ending to a tour focused mainly on culture and archaeology.
- Another option is to enjoy free time in Mérida before the transfer to the airport.
- For travelers continuing their journey, private transfers can be arranged to Cancun, Riviera Maya, Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Mexico City or other destinations in Mexico.
