6 - Day Yucatan Agriculture Farm Tour

Day 1 – Arrival in Cancun – Transfer to Mérida

Welcome to Yucatán, Mexico

• Arrival at Cancun International Airport or pickup at your hotel in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen or Tulum. Meet your private driver and local guide, then depart toward Mérida, the cultural capital of Yucatán.
• The drive from Cancun to Mérida offers a first introduction to the Yucatán Peninsula, its rural landscapes, small towns, local communities and transition from the Caribbean coast to the heart of the Mayan world.
• Upon arrival in Mérida, check in at your hotel. Depending on arrival time, enjoy a short panoramic visit of the city, including the historic center and Paseo de Montejo. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner featuring traditional Yucatecan cuisine.

Day 2 – Mérida – Henequen Haciendas – Livestock Ranch – Sotuta de Peón – Mérida

Henequen, rural communities and traditional livestock production

• After breakfast, depart for a full-day agricultural and heritage experience focused on the henequen industry, one of the most important economic activities in Yucatán during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
• Visit Hacienda Yaxcopoil, one of the most emblematic former henequen estates in Yucatán. Here, travelers will understand the historic role of henequen production, the hacienda system and the social and economic transformation of the region.
• Continue toward the rural area near Muna to visit a local livestock ranch, where you may learn about sheep and cattle production, animal feeding, breeding, pasture management and the daily realities of ranch life in Yucatán.
• After lunch, visit Hacienda Sotuta de Peón, a living henequen hacienda where the traditional process of extracting fiber from the agave plant is still demonstrated. This is one of the best experiences to understand how henequen shaped the history, economy and identity of Yucatán.
• Return to Mérida in the late afternoon. Evening at leisure.

Day 3 – Mérida – Oxkutzcab Agricultural Region – Mayan Milpa – Local Market – Mérida

Citrus, fruits, vegetables and traditional Mayan farming

• Today is one of the most important days of the tour for understanding agriculture in Yucatán. Depart to the Oxkutzcab region, considered one of the most productive agricultural areas in southern Yucatán.
• Visit local farms dedicated to citrus fruits, tropical fruits, vegetables and seasonal crops. Depending on the season and local availability, the visit may include lemon, orange, grapefruit, mango, mamey, avocado, squash, tomatoes, cucumber, eggplant, banana, plantain, yuca and other regional products.
• The program may also include a visit to a Mayan milpa, the traditional agricultural system where corn, beans, squash and chile are cultivated together. This experience helps visitors understand how Mayan communities have produced food for centuries and how traditional practices are being adapted today with more sustainable methods.
• Visit the local agricultural market and trading area, where farmers and merchants from different parts of the region buy and sell agricultural products.
• Lunch at a local restaurant. Return to Mérida in the afternoon.

Day 4 – Mérida – Uxmal – Southern Yucatán Farms – Mérida

Mayan heritage, citrus, papaya, habanero chile and agroecology

• After breakfast, visit Uxmal, one of the most impressive Mayan archaeological sites in Mexico and a masterpiece of the Puuc architectural style. The visit offers an excellent cultural complement to the agricultural journey, helping travelers understand the deep connection between Mayan civilization, land, water, climate and food production.
• After Uxmal, continue through the agricultural areas of southern Yucatán. Depending on the season and confirmed farm availability, visits may include farms dedicated to Persian lime, papaya, oranges, habanero chile, vegetable production or agroecological farming projects.
• This day offers a strong look at both traditional and modern agricultural production in Yucatán, including small and medium-scale farmers who supply local, regional and sometimes international markets.
• Evening at leisure in Valladolid.

Day 5 – Mérida – Izamal – Chichén Itzá – Cenote – Valladolid

Magic town, Mayan wonder and colonial Yucatán

• After breakfast and check-out, depart toward Izamal, one of the most beautiful towns in Yucatán. Known as the “Yellow City” Izamal combines colonial architecture, Mayan heritage, artisan traditions and a peaceful local atmosphere.
• Continue to Chichén Itzá, the most famous Mayan archaeological site in Mexico and one of the most visited cultural attractions in the country. Your guide will explain the main buildings of this extraordinary ancient city, including the Pyramid of Kukulkán, the Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors and other important structures.
• After lunch, visit a nearby cenote for a refreshing swim or a beautiful nature stop. Cenotes are one of Yucatán’s most unique natural features and were deeply meaningful to the ancient Maya.
• Continue to Valladolid, a charming colonial city and excellent base for exploring eastern Yucatán. Check in at your hotel. Evening at leisure.

Day 6 – Valladolid – Tizimín Livestock Region – Return to Cancun

Cattle ranches, rural Yucatán and farewell

• After breakfast, depart to the Tizimín region, one of the most important livestock areas in Yucatán. Visit selected ranches or agricultural production areas, depending on availability and the specific interests of the travelers.
• The visit may include cattle ranches, pasture production, sheep farming, habanero chile, papaya or other agricultural projects in the region. This final day gives travelers a deeper view of rural Yucatán away from the most visited tourist routes.
• Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, depart toward Cancun. Drop-off at Cancun International Airport or at a hotel in Cancun, Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen or Tulum.

Important note: If travelers have an international departure flight on Day 6, the flight should ideally be scheduled in the evening. Otherwise, we recommend adding one post-tour night in Cancun or Riviera Maya.
