Chichen-Itza: The Lost Paradise of the Mayans.
The city of Chichen Itza, recently declared as one of the Wonders of the New World it was a religious, political and cultural center of the Mayan civilization during a time of splendour. The control that the Mayans had in the architecture and astronomy became evident when visiting this sacred city in which the buildings took up a space following a meticulous plan designed to pray to the Kukulcan gods.

The construction of the city of Chichen-Itza is dated in the 5th century of our time and was carried out surrounding a combination of mirrors of sacred waters. These are the famous cenotes of Yucatan, which are holes of clear waters in which the underground rivers emerge and cross throughout the Peninsula.

The first signs of this place in contemporary times dates back to the mid 19th century and is registered in travelers diaries. However, the archeological investigations and most important discoveries were carried out in the 1960´s. In this monumental complex, the Kukulcan Pyramid is highlighted, also known as El Castillo or the Castle. It is without a doubt the most emblematic construction of Mayan culture. The stairs that are found on the four sides leads to the top of the pyramid where you can observe the surrounding area.

The Castillo or Castle gathers its mystic powers during the spring and fall seasons. At dawn the shade of the pyramid projects a figure of the feathered serpent, Kukulcan that descends to the land from the skies.

The Temple of the Warrriors offers details that calls out the attention of the visitors. The columns found at the entrance represents the fearful Mayan warriors protecting the building formed with perfect symmetrics.

The Sacred Cenote, religious center, represents the mystery of the Mayan culture. There they offer the gods with human sacrifices as the most important part of the ceremony. The Cancha de Pelota or Baseball field is the largest in Meso America and is richly decorated with fresh and low reliefs.
