The region of western Sierra Madre region is one of the country´s most valuable attractions. From Puerto Vallarta you can begin a tour towards the mountains. It is an important ecological habitat, with a display of rich biodiversity found in any site north of America with a wide range of flora and fauna species. The mountains are a source of hidden treasures, with an intense wild life, waterfalls, typical towns and with paths that lead to the heart of the jungle. Many areas are only accesible on horse or walking.
In the mountains of the Sierra Madre, covered with tropical jungle you can find some 400 migratory bird species and marine birds, including woodpeckers, doves, venus fly trap, magpie, orioles, humingbirds, owls, hawks, eagles, Mexican cacique, tropical tyrant, kiskadee and Amazon loros. It also has some 300 species of orchids, diverse mammals and other forms of flora and fauna, in addition to reptiles and an incredible number of colorful butterflies.
