  The park Nevado de Toluca had as original name Xinantecatl which means place of the nine snowcapped hills.A paved road will lead you near the crater of the extinct volcano Nevado de Toluca or Xinantecatl.It is 4,558 meter high above the sea level. There are two beautiful lagoons in the summit of the colossus. They are known as del Sol and de la Luna .Important archeological findings have been made here.The park has a an extension of 51,000 hectares full of pines ,cedars and silver firs. Lots of animals live among these woods: tlacauches, coyotes, reptiles, rabbits, rodents and birds. The park offers other near elevations for those who love climbing: the hill La Calera (3,740m) ,the hill Cacalotepec, the volcano Gordo and the hill San Antonio(3600 m).
