  Cofre de Perote,an extinct volcano of a rectangular shape, is located in Eastern Sierra Madre, between the states of Veracruz and Puebla. It was given the name of Nauhcampatepetl which in the native tongue Nahuatl means “four-side Mountain”. It has been recognized as national park and it has 55,960 hectares of extension. It is also the eighth highest mountain in Mexico, whose elevation reaches 4,282 meter high above the sea level. Cofre de Perote has three climbing routes. The simplest is initiated in the town of El Conejo. The second and third ones are :La Peña and Ramsa. There are also other climbing routes such as: Pescados, El Llanillo which comprehends Los Altos and Xico-Rusia.
